Depuis 1983, des Pères et des Frères missionnaires Comboniens se sont établis dans la paroisse de Chikowa et prennent en charge le développement de cette zone. Une école primaire et un collège ont été construits pour plus de 800 enfants ainsi qu’une école technique proposant des formations pratiques en agriculture, menuiserie et maçonnerie. Il y a deux ans, l’école maternelle a ouvert ses portes et le lycée est toujours en cours de construction.
